The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas

Walt Disney Studios' The Nightmare Before Christmas is returning to cinemas for a special one-day event on 7 December, screening across Cineworld Cinemas nationwide in 3D. Follow-up Movies for Juniors screenings will take place in 2D from 17 December, select independent cinemas will screen throughout the Christmas period.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is the story of the skeleton who stole Christmas; a playfully skewed take on the festive ghost story tradition from the unique, gothic imagination of Tim Burton. First conceived as a children's book during the filmmaker's tenure in Disney's animation department in the 80s, the macabre magic of its fairytale setting was eventually realised through the distinctive qualities of stop-motion animation - becoming the first film of its kind to be released by a major studio, and the first to be converted to 3D.

After another successful year of spreading seasonal fear, Jack Skellington, the Pumpkin King of Halloween Town, has grown tired of the same old scare-and-scream routine. Wandering deep in the woods beyond his graveyard home, Jack happens upon a portal to Christmas Town where he is instantly inspired by the wonder of this new and exciting holiday. He returns to share the news with his neighbours, but struggles to communicate the true meaning of Christmas. Their collective misunderstanding sets in motion a plan for the terrifying citizens of Halloween Town to take over the 25th and for Jack himself to usurp the leading role of Sandy Claws.
